REMARKS:

Spike Africa is one of the best known and loved traditionally rigged sailing craft on the west coast. She was designed and built in 1977 by Robert Sloan of Newport Beach, and named for Spike Africa, the legendary President of the Pacific Ocean. She has completed six passages to Hawaii. Spike Africa appeared in film, TV and advertising, including a major role in "Joe vs. the Volcano" with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. A cover story in the May/June 1986 issue of Wooden Boat Magazine describes the history and construction of Spike Africa.

Spike Africa is a true classic. Every item has been built by master craftsmen with attention to rugged durability, beauty and tradition. Replacement cost would be well over $1 million.
