It has been a privelege to own and maintain this vessel for the past ten years. The many people whose lives have been touched by Spike Africa know her as more than just another boat. She has been planned, built, and looked after with so much heart that she has a life of her own. Every curve of her hull, every board, every piece of hardware has been designed or chosen with the intention of creating the ultimate example of of the gaff rigged coastal schooner. Her design is not merely the creation of her brilliant builder. Rather, the design has evolved, almost as living species evolve, over many generations. The form of every single component has been honed by time to elegantly suit its function.
Lives change, and the time is coming when she will enter--and inevitably transfom--the life of a new owner. He or she will know, as has her current owner, that it is both a joy and a responsibility to care for this magnificent vessel.
